What are your thoughts on jerk strings?  Looking for input on the really calm, no wind days.

Just 3 tied together.  These would be the inside or closest decoys.  No weights.  Let them go with the wind.  Make ripples not splashes.  Just breaking up the surface on a calm day can make the difference.

Absolutely a plus to a decoy setup!  Just so no one is fooled by the term jerk string. Your arm  must be completely concealed If your arm had eyes and could see the birds they can see a moving arm better  they will flare away. But hidden under a hutch of cattails or the like a jerk cord is deadly whether it is pulling a dozen dekes or a headless single or duck butt bobbing.

Thanks for the info everyone.

When I get around to it, I'll post some pictures of what I have created.

Finpower and I have tried jerk strings up north and seem to have success with the little amount we've used them. We've almost always had wind where we set up on our point. The odd time we had no wind was when we've had to rig em up. I agree totally with the whole idea of strings over confidence decoys and being more worried about other things like glares and movement. However, I do think that ducks do respond to movement, but the reaction varies from duck to duck. I can't count how many times we've had ducks coming in and landing either while the dogs are out in the dekes or Finpower and I are actually in the boat or walking around in the dekes picking them up. General rules....stay still and concealed and secondly, keep your eyes on the skies!!
