where did i hit?

well i shot a buck tonight but did not find him i hit him high and back aways any thoughts on where i might have hit think i will find him?

Go slow and mark every drop of blood with marking ribbon.
If you loose the trail, start a grid search.

By high do you mean above the spine?  If you were very high you would hit the spine.  Just under the spine is are the two major arteries.  If you hit one of them, you will find him.  If your shot was below that, I'm afraid it was a gut shot and then you may have to wait for the ravines, crows, and eagles to point it out.  Good luck.

Whiteoakbuck, google "deer anatomy for hunters" the first selection is shot placement for bow hunters.  It has a very good anatomy of a deer.  You can use it to judge exactly where/what you may have hit with your arrow.

still have not found him but after looking at the deer anatomy for hunters it's looking like i hit the kidney but i wont take no for a answer i will look until i find him thanks for the help guys i will let ya know when i find him

My wife shot a buck on Friday night - I was on stand with her and my daughter and I could of swore she hit him in the boiler maker.  It never bled.  I found 4 spots of minimal blood in maybe 40yds.  I began making a circles, on my second circle my light caught his eye (glowed).  It never went 70yds after she shot it.  I tried to back track it to see where I lost the blood trail.  I just never bled.
The shot entered the back rib (gut) and took out both lungs on exit.  Not sure how that happened but the threw and threw shot never bled.
Keep looking - don't give up.

mark the spot were he was standing. what color blood? did the arrow pass all the way threw? if it passed threw what was on the arrow itself? how much blood have you actually found? is there alot or a few drops here and there? sometimes they just dont bleed especially if you hit him in the guts anywhere, the guts clot up the exit hole(which bleeds the most) if you hit him in the kidney(way back) how did that happen? i think if you connected with the kidney you may of still severed one of the 2 arteries if not both that run just behind the kidney. from the last drop of blood do big circles until you find anything. better hurry with this warm weather he may spoil fast. best of luck to you

the arrow did not pass through he didnt start to drop blood till 50 yards and as far as hitting way back im not sure what happen but found to good blood spots at 50 yards where he stoped and then it was few drops back then back to heavy blood then it started to clot up and then nothing at all he is the first buck i have hit but the arrow made a loud crack when it hit not a thud total yards he droped bood was about 200 yards

crack could of been hitting his thighbone/rear leg bone on the other side.

I once found a Buck near home very weak in a snowbank off the road two weeks after he was arrowed by a local. The arrow was high and rear middle of his body it went just under his spine. They can go for a long time unfortunately.

Yes it was several years ago. I was heading out for the last Bowhunt of the season on a warm Dec last day of the season. The small 8 pt. was in the ditch and was alert but not going anywhere. I went up to  the property owners house to ask permission to put the poor thing down but he said his Uncle woundeed a deer two weeks previous and called him up. The permission I got was to finish the deer but the Uncle got to keep the animal. I waited until he showed up and took it, why I do not know because this jerk seemed upset with me for asking to take that deer that supposedly belonged to him.

that sucks the thing had to suffer for so long. in all fairness he wouldnt of know about the deer if you hadnt done the right thing. but to me a deer isnt worth fighting over usually with someone who is armed. just kind of burns though that they wouldnt of offered you anything for it or offered you some of the venison.
