Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.

the problem will only get bigger with the over the phone registration in my opinion.

Yep, I agree - that was a bad move by the DNR, hopefully it sways their populations and they change the rule.  How hard is it to stop into the Big Game Registration station - they are usually pretty well distibuted around the zone.  I may register by phone cause i know im following the rules and buying all my licenses and shooting the right animals - but it just opens up the doors for the irresponsible hunters that give all others a bad name.

the new registration only helps those that follow the rules. those that break the rules are going to break them regardless of how you register a deer. and poachers are going to find a way to poach regardless of if they have a license or not. makes me mad but I can't worry about all the fools in the world

No difference in my opinion.  I have been at numerous registrations stations in 4 or 5 different counties and not one time did anyone ever come out to look at the deer.  Plus the young kids working at the gas stations wouldn't know the difference anyway probably.  It was just a waste of time in my book.  Now I can just do it myself.

Yeah, they have really toned it down alot (atleast at my station).  They used to have the DNR there and a scale, contest for the heaviest doe and buck (bragging rights), the whole sha-bang. (FOR OPENING WEEKEND - not all season)
Now you are right, they dont check!

my registration station still does the whole big buck(weight) and big doe contest, only there is a small entry fee before the season starts...so there are some nice prizes, usually a new wheeler

I think that is a good idea and should have kept it around - in an area where people can only shoot 1 deer, they will think twice before shooting the small buck, or small doe.
Just curious, what is the entry fee?  Ours was free, from that I remember, with no prizes.
I wish they still had that at my station - keeps it exciting and if you end up getting lucky and putting the time in, it may pay off with a nice prize along with a deer.

The electronic registration will hurt the small mom and pop stores up north.  people will just register their deer over the phone and not go into the little stores.

Everytime I go to town when I'm hunting deer turns into a minimum of 20 hard earned dollars.  Multiply that times several hundred and you will go from a good opening weekend to a very slow and profitless season.  Those little stores need all the business that they can get.  It is a long time until the fishing opener.

I see what your saying.. and I don't mind helping out the little guy.. but there are a few spots in mcgrath/aitken where I refuse to go just because I don't like getting fleeced over the little things. On once occasion the guy in front got a different price then I did... he was a local. last time I went there

back to the main point, i know a guy that has his privileges revoked and you can look it up on the DNR website. however he still purchases his license and registers deer every year. how does that work? apparently there is no records and you can probably buy 6 tags if you want. i have called a CO on this and never got a response. actually i have called several times on people poaching and never a returned call. i think the one in my area really doesn't care, hes just doing it cause his daddy did.
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!
