Father, son drown while fishing

A father and his adult son fishing in northern Minnesota apparently drowned after their fishing boat overturned, authorities said Monday.

Recovered Sunday afternoon were the bodies of Lawrence H. Gotchie, 84, and his son Ernest A. Gotchie, 51, both of Ball Club, Minn., said Itasca County Sheriff Pat Medure.

The men, members of the Leech Lake Tribe, were netting whitefish on Ball Club Lake when they went overboard and were found in about 6 feet of water, Medure said. Neither wore a life jacket, according to the sheriff.

Autopsy results are pending, he said.
