Deer camp list

With many of us making plans for next weekends whitetail deer firearms opener, I thought I would start a list of things we don't want to forget and have the rest of you add on to it.


Here is a start of a list.

first aid kit, water snacks(deer summer sausage)  thermus(sp) soup (for thermus i dont drink coffee )  rope, keys for the wheeler so you dont have to put that rope to much use ahaha , monster bucks DVDS for the night before, cards and poker chips... shells, extra shells, brush gun and open area gun(for swamp stand to feild stand) boots extra warm socks, atleast 6 pairs. hand warmers foot warmers and body warmers ahaha. propane cylinder for the mr.buddy heater

Tylenol/Ibuprofen for aches and pains from whatever may come along  Cash to lose in the card games, rubber gloves (in case your like Red and don't like getting your hands dirty) and nerves of steal!!.......Because at least a few of us is going to run into a MONSTER out there!!

Lists are great.... do you guys start out with a freaking full page list like I do?  Its kind of funny how mine morph over a week or so,  starts out as a general list that slowly gets catagorized into a "do" list to get organized at home, the "buy" list (fleet farm gets the share of those things) then there's the food list.  Got it down to the last few things now.... if I can get it all to fit in a trailer now I may just swing this deer hunting thing.....   Good luck everyone!  Im outa here Wednesday morn for a week or so...

We hunt in fairy thick cover, and as a result we can always hear the deer before we see them. I always bring a copy of "The Last of the Mohicans" in with me.

Time to start making our list of things to bring to deer camp this weekend.  Anyone have additional suggestions?

Grunt tube, rattling bag or antlers, wind puffer, Jerky, gutting gloves, sunglasses, piss bootle for in the stand, and a backpack to put everything in but the pee bootle.

This isn't my deer camp list, but it is what I carry into the woods.  There are times when I wish I could just take my gun and bullets and go.

First, you have to bring your license and ID.  That is a must.

But then if I get one, I'll need a knife to gut it.
And I'll need gutting gloves so I don't get CWD or some other disease.
And its always handy to have a bottle of water and some paper towels to clean up afterwards, because those gutting gloves never seem to keep the blood out completely.
And then I'll need a drag rope to get it out of the woods.
And don't forget the string to tie the site tag to the deer.

And my drag rope is not the same rope I use to get my gun up into the stand, so I have one of those.
And I finally wised up and got a good safety harness that I don't mind wearing, but that means an extra rope for the prussic knot around the tree.

I usualy have a warm pair of gloves and a thin pair of gloves and some hand warmers as well.

And I've had such good results with calls, I definately need to bring them - at least two.
And I can't say that my rattle horns or doe P were ever responsible for me bagging a deer, but I bring those anyway.
I tried buck bombs last year, but they didn't work well and left most of the scent in the can.  But my buddy used one last week and it helped him get a nice buck, so I might have to reconsider.

And a couple of years ago I got a GPS so I wouldn't get lost.
And you need spare batteries in case the ones in the GPS die.
And I still bring my compass in case the GPS dies anyway.
I used to take a walkie-talkie, but we have cell phone coverage now for emergencies.
I've got a head lamp so I don't trip and fall in the dark.  The spare batteries will work in the headlamp too.  And I have an extra flashlight in case I need more light for tracking.
And I carry a digital camera to take pictures of things that happen and cool things I see.  The canera on my cell phone isn't very good.

And I bring some snacks for extra energy.
And finally some TP for when nature calls.

And spare bullets.  I've never emptied my magazine, but you never know.

I usually forget something, but I'm sure I'll remember it Saturday morning before 10:00 AM.
