Anyone out there hunted east or east central ND before? Just wondering if it is worth the trip. I know SW is nirvana but don't want to travel that far.  Hear S of 94 is better. Any thoughts?

Well, We just got back last night and I can honestly say this was the funnest hunt I have ever been on in my life!!!!! 100ft x 200ft patches of trees and grass held anywhere from 0 to 200 birds. Mostly the latter of the two numbers. You just never knew what you were in store for when you walked up to these places.
The birds were a bit skiddish but the thing of it is you could walk up to a small patch of grass and trees and watch birds fly out the whole time you walk up to it. In my mind I was thinking there isn't anymore birds left in those trees by the time we got within shooting range. Next thing you know out piled more birds!!!! :fudd: :fudd: Never seen anything like that in my life. I only got one set of pics as the outside temps were only single digit and I didn't want to take out the camera for any length of time. Nor did anyone really want to waste time taking pics when such good hunting was to be had. I will post them below when I get a chance. We hunted 3 days and brought home 13 birds. We could have brought home a total of 18 but it took us the first day to figure out the birds and how to hunt them. It snowed the second day we were there and we didn't hunt a full day. We still got our limit in about 4 hours of hunting. Yesterday was our last day of hunting so we headed out early got our limit and we had to leave. So to answer your question Buster,  I have hunted south central North Dakota and all I can say is you need to get your butt out there!!! ;D  Its not really that long of a drive and it is worth the trip for sure.
Oh yeah, I did get some of the famus Wishek Sasauge but havn't tried it yet.

Pickel,

Were you on PLOTS or Private? Were you in the fore mentioned Oakes, Mishek, Lidgerwood area?

We hunted both P.L.O.T.S and private. We hunted the Wishek area. We had a "IN" so to speak in the area and were able to get on some private land Thanks to a friend of mine. I would think that if a guy were to do a little door knocking it wouldn't take long to get on some private land. Even on the P.L.O.T.S. land we ended up getting a few birds and I feel if we would have only hunted P.L.O.T.S. land we still would have brought home our limit.
