So...since moving here from up north I've had a hankerin' to go ice fishing for lake trout, something I used to do quite a bit. I have no idea where to go or how far I need to go to get some quality lakers. I'm looking for 'day trip' kind of thing, or I could be convinced to do some winter tenting if need be I guess :cold:. Are all the good lake trout lakes up around Grand Marais or are there any that are closer to the cities that I am unaware of as of yet. I know there are local trout ponds that friends of mine fish, but I'd rather go to the monger and buy a fillet then go to some DNR holding pond....no offence to anyone of course. I have heard that some of the mining pits around Rapids have good Lakers....is this true? Any ideas/advice/input/interest would be appreciated. Shanks laddies and lasses!
Going South......in a manner of speaking!
