Does anybody get up to Winnie and do any spearing? I use to go up there a lot and spear, but haven't been there for a while.

Bucky,as far as I know it is still going strong. it's one of the big attractions for the resorts.
I looked out at the dam today, and the south end almost as far as I could see north was frozen. my guess, if this keeps up, there will be eight inches of ice by spearing opener. that would be almost unheard of.
I havent speared for at least two years now. I allways enjoyed having winters off and heading to the spear house twice a day (pokegama).
my biggest was a ten pounder.
we used to see alot of fish out there.
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

We usually try to get up to Winnie once a year.  Fun to see a lot of fish and enjoy a few beverages!
All I wanna know is, are we going to be cramped?

Thanks for the replies jigglestick and gopher. Jigglestick sounds like we might have some good ice for the opener this year. With this warm weather coming on and the years in the past the first ice has been a little on the thin side.

Where does everybody stay or spear at on Winnie?

When we do go we usually stay around the Bena area and fish out by the river. Been know to stop at the Bena Bar and have a few cocktails.

Gopher,

I've been know to pull a few tabs and dance on the bar at the Gosh Damn Bar. Even heard of people walking around with under garments on their head.

Pray for ice.
