I picked up my first ground blind at Cabelas yeserday.  My two boys and I will be out the whole month of December (youth season in SD).  I am pretty excited to test out the blind!

They are really good to keep the kids out, sheltered and intrigued in the "fort". But also scary in an area that may have someone shooting a gun in your direction without the blaze. I cannot keep myself from mentioning that precaution. I know you got that handled Junkie, but there is someone out there that may not think about it. Good luck.

scroungie got his first deer this year out of a hub blind.
I was sitting right next to him. just like with my oldest son's first deer and incidentaly they were both spikes too.
what ever it takes to get them out and involved.
my nephew sat out for twenty minutes with me then my youngest showed up and I decided to let them two hang together in there for a couple hours.
mistake. as soon as I was out of sight the oldest(nephew) said lets go play black opps.

take away those outside brain dead distractions and get them outdoors.

how'd your waskish hunt go this year OJ?
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

We had several chnaces (all but one hunter saw deer) this year at the Waskish deer camp.  We had a few misses (my sister missed a deer 25 yards away).   We had a few that were passed over (in thick brush or too far away).  We ended up with two spikes and a big doe.  I also saw two timberwolves.  My grandma was sitting on the ground and had a huge buck come out 15 yards from her.  They had a starring contest, then the big fella turned and hop'd off.  My grandma had the barrel pointed the other way and didn't want to throw up and shoot at him jumping away.  It was another fun (really warm) year around Waskish.

My 14 year old and I took the ground blind out this afternoon.  We found a good spot near some heavily used trails.  We start setting it up and look up about 5 minutes later and there is a huge buck standing 25 yards away looking at us.  My son says "there's a buck"!  His gun (30-30 lever action) was leaning against a tree about five feet away (plus it didn't have a shell in the chamber yet).  We watch him run about 50 yards and stand behind some trees flicking his tail.  Then he runs away stopping every once and a while to look back at us.  It was pretty cool!

We sat in the blind for about three hours after that and didn't see anymore deer.  It was comfortable and we stayed nice and warm.  I will start another thread to explain the strange thing we saw later.

also...Ken, I tied orange ribbon on each corner of the blind to help other hunters to see us.

I just picked up a two man blind from Fleet Farm today.  Came with chair attached.  Kids couldn't stay out of it and the wife shook her head....

In terms of blaze orange, I know Wisconsin requires 144 sq. inches (12" x 12") per side of the blind.  Not a bad idea.....
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.

I'm really  suprised they don't make these blinds in blaze orange and snow camo designs yet. My wife bought me the double bull for christmas. Haven't tried it out yet.

Handle every stressful situation like a dog.  If
you can't eat it or hump it.

Piss on it and walk away
