Effed up story let me know wat u think

Ok so i am sitting in my stand on sunday morning after watching a doe walk across the lane in front of me at like 730 ish so me uncle had just called saying he hadnt seen anything yet just after the doe ran bye. So 930 comes aroudn and i am browsing for deer when in front of me about 250 yards down the lane i spot a deer coming in limping so as bad as it was limping i was gonna shoot it now matter what right?? So i got the gun up and grabbed the binoculars and looked at it when i seen a whole 6 points on the one side of the antler i can see so now i get excited but the deer is ready to walk into the brush but then it just turned towards me so i shot it right in the chest took out the heart and the bottom of the lungs but the deer didnt drop on the spot it made a leep into the woods or so it looked. So i called my uncle and i told him and i was gonna wait for him to come so we could go look for it. he said he was leaving the stand at 10 so i said ok ill wait for you. we are hunting on private property by the way it buts up to state land. so 950 comes around and all of a sudden i see three orange people coming down the line on my grandpas property so i thought great this isnt gonna be good. So i grabbed my gun and went to them bye the time i got to them they already almost had the buck gutted out so i said did u guys hit it they said ya we hit it in the leg i said o ok but i made the kill shot on it so wouldnt that mean its my deer?? they said well we have track it for a mile and a half we would have caught up to it and killed it i said believe me no u wouldnt you guys were 20 minutes behind this deer and it showed no signs of slowing down. They said that this is our deer and were taking it and bye that time i was in complete shock not knowing wat to do flipping out. Hoping my uncle comes up to help me out cuz i mean its 3 adults here to me. So they took off and me still in shock of what is happening my uncle finally shows up he said get in the truck we are goin to get this solved turns out they are locals so we didnt want to start any problems no big deal i lost a 140 class 12 pointer my biggest buck ever all is over. Pretty sure i just lost half my heart and it is still in the deer stand.

Don't they need permission before tracking the deer on private property?

 A couple of things, the deer was yours plain and simple..you killed it, they wounded it

 I would have called the warden!

 Bad thing, you were using a cell phone to contact another hunter.. I believe you could have had a problem if the warden would have knowen that.

 and yes, you can retrieve your game from private property BUT you can NOT bring a gun. You can track it to where it died(from your killing shot). If it wasn't wounded bad enough to die from your shot and someone else from that property killed it. Your SOL! Another thing, it's always best to try and get permission from the land owner. It's just good PR as a hunter and keeps us in good graces with the land owners and avoides a problem just like THIS!

I know what I would have done, but then again you were in completely different shoes.
by now this deer is quartered and sent to the taxidermist.

you are young with many hunting seasons left ahead of you. dont let it get you down.
I am still waiting on a decent set of horns and I have been at this almost thirty years.
I keep telling myself, that around every tree, he could be there and I honestly believe it. when it's meant to be, it will all come together.

according to conservation officer Dave Olsen of Grand Rapids, MN, (this happened to me)
I hit a nice buck, but I think now, that I just winged him in the brisket.
we tracked the buck three quarters of a mile, mostly on my hands and knees to a privte parcel of land.
we decided to re-group and call the C.O.
officer olsen told us that we would have to get the permission of the  land owner to persue the animal.
he told me that if the land owner said no, that was the end of it.
I had allways believed that you colud tresspass as long as you were in persuit of a wounded animal, and I asked him that, but he again told me no and repeated the the way I just told you.

dont argue with me, I am just repeating what I was told.

 Per the 2006 Minnesota Hunting and trapping Regs

 Page 14 at the top of the page

 A person on foot may, without permission, enter land that is NOT posted to retrieve a wounded animal that was lawfully shot, but may not remain on the land after being told to leave.

 If posted, you must get permission

 All you would have had to do is, tell the hunters who claimed your buck to leave the property, if they didn't, you could have charged them with trespassing

 Also posted land has to be posted every 1000ft  or less in open areas and every 500ft or less in wooded areas to be legally posted. You must also have sign's that are signed by the poster/land owner

Last year we shot a 10pt buck and it went onto the next property over from us and died. the land owner was not home, so I called the DNR and the state patrol dispatch was the one who answered. I told him the situation and he said that we can retrieve our kill on no uncertain conditions but we could not bring out guns or any other form of a weapon, not even a knife. so that is what we did.

Wow - Interesting discussion.  Anyway you look at it, it sucks for you Brandon.  I'm sure there is another one out there somewhere that has your name written all over it.  Always have been a firm believer of what goes around, comes around.

Just to make you feel better, I had one I shot on public land and it was gushing out blood. Not more than 150 yards away a young hunter shot it. I said I was tracking it and he said it was his biggest deer yet and I said ok, its yours. It was a 8 point.

The first year that I ever deer hunted I had something similar happen.

My friend Chris and I had scouted for months and we were getting pretty excited. I had found a small rub line as it got closer to the opener so I set up at what I thought was the perfect place to get this buck if he was moving this trail during the day.

Opening morning I am pumped up! About an hour of light passes and I hear a few crunches off into the woods. It was then quiet for about a minute or two and out of nowhere a small 6 point buck appears in front of me heading straight down the trail.

He comes out to the main doe trail and he turns to his right and offers me a perfect broadside shot! I take it. The buck falls and gets back up and just stands there shocked. I unload on him and don't hit him again.

After I am out he just walks away! Not running, not trotting, just walks slowly away. I watch him walk down the ravine up the other side and onto the neighbors property. He gets into some brush and sits down.

This is my first time ever deer hunting and really have no clue what to do!

I am also out of slugs at this time so I get out of my stand and head over to my buddies stand. he gives me more slugs and I head back to my stand. As I get back into position I see where the buck still is. I then watch him stand up again and walk deeper into the woods. about 1 minute later I hear a shot right where he walked into. I know exactly where their stand is and that is where he went.

To this day I still replay that hunt in my head over and over. What it comes down to is accuracy.

What a let down though. All the hard work I put into that hunt. I had that deer patterned. He was mine! Oh well.

As for you Brandon...That to really sucks. We can all say what you should of done and what we would of done but it is over and there is nothing you can do now.

You could have asked those people to leave. If you had they had to leave the deer there on private land.  Daybefore I called the state to clerify the law. Chucks post was exactly right. The only thing is if the landowner asks someone to leave immediatly they must leave their game or dog,  if the land owner says no then it means no.
I even asked the state about retrieving your dog and they told me quote "If the land owner tells you to leave without being able to get your dog you must leave" They also said the law has been changed to be in favor of the land owner always!

A few seasons back I saw a young buck with a bloody front walk about 30 yds out on the Scandia property I hunt.  I grunted, he stopped, I punched a hole through his lungs, end of story.  I get him dressed and have my tag around an antler when I see this guy RUNNING (based on the shape he was in, he shouldn'ta been running anywhere) through the woods from an adjacent property and he has his tag in his hand, waving it around.  He stops, all out of breath and informs me that I'd shot his deer and he'd been tracking it.  Turns out he'd nicked the deer's lower jaw and he sorta blew out one of the molars.  It was anything but a kill shot and the poor deer'd probably have a helluva time eating, it it was possible at all.  I showed the guy and asked him, "That look like a kill shot to you?  How exactly do you shoot out a deer's f*ckin' molar?  You just throw the gun up and take a snap shot?  If I hadn't killed this deer, there's no damn way you'da caught him.  His mobility was just fine when he walked by and the bleeding wasn't that bad.  So, this guy look like your deer?  Or my deer?" 
Well, numb-nut got the picture.  He wasn't too happy, but he didn't argue the evidence or logic.  Also doesn't hurt to be 6' 1", 220 and have the ability to look sorta borderline wacked  :o when I need to.  A skill I acquired bouncing for a few years at Moby Dicks on Hennepin Ave.  You could always bank on trouble at M.D.s!
Keep in mind that this was pre-Vang and I squared this turkey up pretty good.  Doubt I'd get too excited nowadays...unless it was one helluva deer.

 :( BRANDON! sorry to hear about these great hunters and their ethicks, but some people just plainly are gluttens . poor sportsmans ship hurts us all. hopefully there is a lesson in this for them, and i hope this does not soure your imiage of most hunters as most hunters are fair at the game . GOOD LUCK AND BETTER HUNTING!!!!!!!!
