While it sounds like much of the state is shoveling out this morning, this last snowstorm missed us up here on Lake of the Woods. We have very little snow on the lake. With temperatures around -20 last night the lake is making more and more ice on top of the 11-12 inches we currently have. It looks like we will be in the single digits and teens for high temperatures the next week.

We are fishing out in 20-26 feet of water this week. We have nearly 40 houses out on the lake. We’ll be getting the big sleepers out this next week as well. The bite has been steady so far, with a couple really good days. We experienced high pressure most of the past week, and fishing was certainly slower on those days. All of our houses are catching fish, but the houses in a bit shallower are getting some of the nicer Walleye it seems. We are seeing lots of Sauger already this winter. Most folks in the area consider any Sauger over the 12 inch mark an eater. Most of the Sauger seem to be running in the 11 – 14 inch range so far this winter. There were plenty of slot Walleye caught during the week too, and a few over the 28 inch mark. The biggest fish of the week belonged to Gene Kirk, who pulled in a 31.5 inch Walleye. We’ve even seen a handful of Sturgeon this week.

To no surprise, early to mid morning and late afternoon has brought the best action. Gold, red, and green have been the best colors. Folks are doing well with Frostees, Gem-N-Eyes, and Rock-N-Roll jigs with a full minnow on their dead stick line. Stop Signs, Macho-Minnows, and Darters have been the ticket for jigging. A few of the guests this week did really well on some aggressive Walleye with the Lindy Darter.

We do still have midweek space available for some great early ice fishing in December. We had a few cancellations as well, so we may be able to fit you in on a weekend yet too. Sleepers are filling extremely fast, so if you are planning a sleeper trip this winter you may want to set up a reservation soon.

Fish ON!
