Nearly identical largemouth bass taken near Mosinee

By Creative Brilliance • For Wisconsinoutdoorfun.com • March 12, 2011

A pair of nearly identical largemouth bass were caught during a guided outting on a Central Wisconsin lake (near Mosinee), by Phil Schweik of Hooksetter's Fishing & Hunting Guide Services of Mosinee, Wisconsin.

Both fish were caught through the ice on Friday afternoon between 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm, March 11, 2011. within 30 minutes of each other using a tip-down with 3 pound test line, and a small black crappie minnow (they were going for crappies). Fish were both in 20 feet of water, and suspending about 10 feet down. Each fish came in at over 7 pounds, with one going 21.5 inches, and the second going 22 inches.

Guide Phil Schweik said, "I have never seen anything like this in all the over 30 years I've fished in Central Wisconsin, and to have both of these fish come through an 8 inch hole in the ice, within a half hour of each other, caught by two different anglers is I believe a first at least in my memory."

Both fish were released immediately.
