I guess we need to know, how you plan on hunting?

Bow hunting I stick with a mouth call (difficult to master)
Shot gun, I like box calls and slate...

Don't know about anybody else, but I have never found a grenade that works very good, or very long. (a grenade, is a single hand held push button call)
Mama always said, If you ain't got noth'in nice to say, don't say noth'in at all!

I use all three types of calls.  Mouth calls to locate birds.  I start chirping on it as loud as I can to see where the birds are.    Box and slates to seal the deal.  Decoys are mostly a jake and one or two hens.
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.

Indeed!  I will only use a box call - since I we have so many crows and owls on our property, that I dont have to locate the birds when I get out there, I can usually hear them.
For decoys, I also use a Jake and a hen, sometimes 2, but usually just one.  I am also hunting out of a blind in some tall grass on the edge of a field.  Remington Shotgun, with #5 turkey shot!   :fudd:

As to calls, sincd not all turkey ssound alin, you cna use any breding o call,l and call in turkeys, as long as ti souds like a turkey, most do. As to ease fo use, the slate and box callare noth fairly eay to learn on. adn both are as good as the o ther. But, do not get either wt, they dont' perforn well weet. Carry them in a ziploc bag. I personally yse a nouth call, dourble reedm no fancy splits of cuts or notches, becaue it sound lke a to or a h en, adn it leaves both hand free to use a gun or bow. And i can use it for elk, or a scalded dog, or coyote h owl etc.

Guns 12 guage, shells 4's or 6's the combnatin 4's and 6's work well, in steel or lead or fancy composite. The man this is aim for the base of the neck, where the skin turns to featehr, that way you will get the neck and the head, and a dead turkey.

You might wtn to pickup a ves t with a seat in it, siting on the gorund can be cod and wet, especially tis year. Camo allover, especially hands and face, get a face maks that leave only your eues showing, and gloves. Maybe pic up a coyote howler, barred owl call, or peacock call - to get eh bird sto soudn of ( it is calle shok gobbling) so you cn locate them.

Go look for tbirds at n ight, wtch wher they roost, and then get close to the roost, but betwen it and wher you think they will o go in the morning, often an open meadow of fielsdto eat and strtu. Set up along a likely trave toure, dn you cna dall to ge then to come your way, or use a decoy  to get ehm closer, or just anbuch them when they walk buy you.
Get a good bdook, -try the Turkey adict's Amanul _ hear it is guaranteed to hlp you understadn turkeys better, and make you a better hunter. I know the authro well.

God bless,
