Youth turkey hunt numbers and morel rules Illinois
April 07, 2011 at 04:20 PM

Young guns

Young turkey hunters closed out the 2011 spring youth wild turkey season with a preliminary harvest of 745 birds. That’s a slight uptick from the 737 wild turkeys harvested in 2010.

South zone hunters bagged 289 and north zone hunters killed 456.

Dates were Mar. 26-27 in the south zone and April 2-3 in the north zone.

The first season in the north zone kicks off Monday.

Morel hours

State-managed sites where turkey hunting is allowed are closed to other activities – including morel mushroom hunting - until 1 p.m. during turkey season.

Wild turkey hunting season closes May 5 in the south zone and May 12 in the north zone.

No license is required for mushroom collecting in Illinois.

Morel hunters should respect private property and site regulations.
