My Journey began this winter when my son and I decided we wanted to try turkey hunting.

In early February we logged onto the SD Game, Fish, and Parks website and both applied for our turkey licenses.

While we were waiting to find out if we would be awarded Black Hills spring turkey tags, we started learning how to turkey hunt.

We read articles in hunting magazines.  We watched turkey hunting tip videos on youtube.  We posted questions and sought advice on MNO.

The good news came at the end of February that both my son and I received turkey tags in the mail!

We invested in a couple different turkey calls and decoys.  We also purchased some turkey loads for our shot guns.

We spent a few weekends scouting different spots, and target practicing.  We listened to a couple cd's on "the art of calling".  We practiced the different calls.  My boys gave up on the mouth call and focused on the box and slate calls.

We developed a strategy for our first day of where we wanted to hunt and how we were going to walk in to that spot and set up.

We saw a hen and heard a gobbler the first morning.  The weather turned bad and we only saw a couple mule deer in the afternoon.

The next time we had the opportunity to get out turkey hunting was the following saturday morning and that is when we were blessed with an opportunity to harvest a nice gobbler.

Thank you to all of MN Outdoorsman and SD Outdoorman members and viewers for going along this journey with us on our first turkey hunt.  Thank you for all the great advice and tips you shared here on MNO.  Now we have one more tag left to fill!   :happy1:
