Anyone have their plans locked in?  I had thought about Leech for opener but this weather pattern has me   .  I haven't decided yet.  I may wait a week for eyes and hit the early crappie bite on the lake of no fish provided the water starts to warm up.  I just don't know at this point.   I would love to take a video camera and film some busy boat launches on opener.  It is truly painful if you are waiting in line.  Hilarious to watch if you are not in a hurry.

I refuse to go on opener any more.  Too many idiots in hurry.

The last opener I made it to was Mille Lacs about 8 years ago.  Fishing on the east side.  It was about 930-1000 PM and we ended up pulling a guy, completely drunk, out of the water.  He was by himself but alone.  We ended up pulling his boat in and leaving him on the landing with the Sheriff.
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.

Ill be fishing on Leech unless the ice isn't out...  But I wont be waiting in line to put my boat in, Ill just go down to the dock and get in.... ;D   If the Ice is not out on Leech,  then new game plan prob a smaller lake in the area.   Opener for us is usually get  up and go to Jimmy's Restaurant in Walker for breakfast, then out for a couple hrs of fishing, go look for some mushrooms or a bike ride, go fishing again at 5pm till dark, come back to the cabin and if its not snowing have a campfire with our friends and neighbors.... :drinking:   Opener is a lot more than just fishing....its greating old friends, seeing the Loons, watching the eagles, hopefully a meal of fresh walleye and perch..

Thats sounds like a nice opener ! As for the ice being gone I think you will be ok. I dont always go to leech on the opener, the landings and parking can be horrible. Some People dont understand the consept of being ready before they get to the launch. I think some people dont even run there boat till they get it in the water on opener. It would be fun to film and watch the goings-on.

right now the plan is to go to hit mille lacs friday night for opener then a friend and i have to come back he has school(college) and i have a football game(SEMI-PRO)on the saturday of opener, so we have to come back down to the citys then we are driving back up to mille lacs that saturday evening, kind of expensive on gas if you ask me, but we always go to mille lacs for opener and this would be our 5th year of doing it together. we took a launch last year instead of taking the boat up and it actually worked out pretty well, so we are going to do the same this year.

As I have see in the past how landing can get on opener. The weather is one think to dill with on the open as the older I get I fine myself not so willing get up before the sun dose, So a little more  :coffee: As fish will be there when I get there, So opening day I plan on staying off the lakes, But Sunday I will hit Big pine looking for that 30+ walleye to put me on the top of this year 2011 Fishing Challenge  as the eye will be more in the 4' of water as it as been on the cold side this year, As most know this time of year the eye's are hunger and the water had turn, I all so  by hit the lake that I live close to will save me time and $$ with the gas and food as high as it been. I know the lake it close I know the landing so I can drop the boat off the trailer in less then 5 min, just give me more time to fish  ;D

As you all head out for 2011 fishing opener  safe it should be #1 on your list,
life vest out if not on you, kids it a must!!!
frist aid kit,

Be more aware on what around you take a little more time as in do not hurry, Have your stuff all read when putting your boat in wait your turn at the landing, make sure you leave the lake better then when you got there.

Have Fun!! Good luck!!   :Photography: do not forget your camera so we all can see the fish and smiles, of your outing,  ;D

I will NOT be fishing for the opener - the lakes are too busy for me!  I will be up at the lake the first week in June, so I will get my fishing in once the pressure dies off from the opening week.

:fishing2:  Good luck to everyone who is fishing and be safe!

Going to Winnie with Finnpower, the GM and Cousin Pauly. More of a "It's opener, I'd better get out there and represent" kind of attitude. We'll be visiting in the eve, grilling and helping put the docks in......working vacation.

Change of plans, taking/dragging Big Red out on the water on Sunday for some pannies and maybe a northern or two around Monticello. Winnie is too far for this weekend and gas is too expensive. Heading out Saturday with the family for a boat/fishing trip too.
