Fishing in the Ely area continues to be slow with water temps much cooler than they should be for this time of year.
Surface temps soared on the lakes with today's hot temps, but it's still cool 15 feet down at about 62-63 degrees.
If we get another 3-4 days of warm temps, the fishing should get better, but stability in the weather has been hard to come by this summer.
Bass did not spawn in most lakes, pike seem to be the best bets for fishing action along with bluegills and sunnies which have moved into the shallow areas.
To add insult to injury, the state ceasing sale of fishing licenses could make many out of state visitors change their plans.

Hey Guys,

May be staying at River Point Resort in August- wondering if you know how the fishing is on Birch & Kawashiwi river? Depths/tactics?

Was up later in the year last year & did get some walleyes but was very slow..

Thank you.

Fishing has been slow on most of the lakes, but the water temps are climbing, and fish are starting to become active.
Many species have moved into shallow areas for whatever reason, and I've seen many walleyes in less than 4 FOW in the boathouse the last several days.
Unfortunately the sunnies and rock bass are guarding the surface and you can't get a leech or minnow down to the walleyes.
Water temps still continue to be cold, with Burntside showing 61 degrees in 20 FOW.
