As Ely area lakes warm up, so does fishing

 The heat wave for about 5 days has warmed the lake temps and fishing has gotten quite a bit better.
Quite a few large walleyes and bass are being taken.  Walleyes are anywhere from 8-35 feet, and the largest bass are in deeper water, up to 50 feet.
Northerns are still active in about 15 FOW, but not many large ones being caught (24-30 inches being common)
Sunnies are in shallow water and hard to keep off the hook when you find a school of them.
It seems like the entire summer has shifted, with the cold and hot fronts that we've had.  The fishing activity now is more common from the 3rd week of June to mid July, so it should remain good for a while.
Leeches and crawlers are the most popular bait, but minnows always work and more people should use them.  You'd be surprised as to how many fish will hit a minnow a lot more aggressivley than the other two.
