GREAT WEEKEND!  If you like ice fishing, then you were in your utopia this weekend.  Temps into the teens during the week solidified lakes across Minnesota and the ice fishing craze was on.  Minnewaska had a good 8 to 9 inches of ice and because of the cold hard freeze; it was the best ice many have seen in 15 years!  What a way to kick off the season...now if the fish can cooperate.  There were several groups into Fish On that reported catching 30 to 50 walleyes!  Most were less than 15 inches and went back but you could get a few over 15 inches by the time you were done.  A walleye is fun to catch at any size...right.  What's funny...there were several groups in that said they had a hard time getting any sleep as the rattle reels kept going off all through the night!  Minnewaska is a great destination for some walleyes and even better to bring the whole family as I think just about anyone could catch walleyes right now.  Most reported walleyes biting on both fatheads and shiners or even changing appetites as the day went on.  There was also more interest in glow white and glow red plain hooks along with some moon glow whites and reds.  The crappie bite is also on.  I haven't heard what sizes but they are being caught in the traditional locations out from the DNR wall along the old twp road to in front of Lakeside Ballroom.  Minnewaska is also a historical panfish lake and there were many out after sunfish.  The summer and fall bite on BIG sunfish was great and I would expect that to continue most of the winter.  I would recommend trying to find the old weed lines at 13 to 16 feet of water for the big ones...but you can catch sunfish pretty much anywhere on Minnewaska.  Wigglers and waxworms are always good but I would also try our nice small crappie minnows for some of the big sunnies as well...tends to keep the smaller sunnies from biting although their eyes are bigger then their stomachs as well.  Fish On will have a good inventory of crappie minnows, fatheads, shiners, suckers, spearing decoys, waxies, wigglers and much more.  Stop in to see the newly remodeled store and latest fishing updates.  We are located two blocks south of the stop lights.  Pope County also has a lot of public land for anyone to come out and chase some roosters...pheasants everywhere!  Stop by and say Hi!  We need some cold weather to keep this great ice!  Kyle Fish On...and on...and on...and on
