Saw a spike and a decent 8 in the morning. Not what I'm after, but nice to see. Took my son out in the evening and saw a fork. Nothing this morning, got out early just beating the rain.

I had family things to do on Saturday.  I came down with a whopper cold late last week so when I got up this morning (Sunday) I just said, "there's still 103 days left" and stayed inside.  Worse part of the day was I wasted several hours watching football.
***I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.***

opening morning was a bust. sat in my favorite bow stand, wind was wrong for it but i did it anyway. sat at 30 feet and sprayed myself head to toe in dead down wind scent killer and wore my scent blocker. well seen turkeys and lots of squirrels then a red fox and a stray cat. but not one deer on opening morning. went out to the stand at 3:30pm, i was gonna sit from 2 to dark but i was watching the gophers. well got out there and 2 big does were standing in my shooting lane right in front of my stand. they busted and that was it. sat in the stand and seen nothing else but squirrels. left the stand 30 minutes early. gets to dark in the woods couldnt shoot anyways. checked out the corn feilds and 3 does where stand on the edge. stopped the truck 150 yards down and the stalk was on. wind was favorable so i gave it a try. well got the edge of the corn and seen they had walked about a 100 yards down already. i walked around swift and fast to the next edge and there one was i drew and out stepped a fawn and i let down. she took off and that was it. coolest part was i stalked to within 4 yards of that deer and could of taken a shot if it wasnt a fawn. be back out monday morning.

Saw 2 does opening morning, didn't get a shot. Saw 1 doe last night, same thing to far away. This morning had 2 come under my stand and shot a big doe at 8 yards. Decent opening weekend.

I didnt get out opening day - I had to work this weekend, but I did get out Sunday evening and this morning.  Sunday I didnt see any deer, just a few turkeys and an owl, I was making lots of noise when I got there making sure the stands were all OK, so I didnt expect to see much.
This morning however, I saw even more turkeys, a flock of about 8.  I also saw 3 does and 3 small bucks (both 4-pointers).  I passed up on the does, had broadside at 10 yards, same with the bucks - they milled around my stand for a good 10-15minutes and then went on their way.  I only get 1 deer where I am hunting, so I didnt want to end my season after 1 day with a small buck.  I will continue to hunt for a mature buck until it starts getting down to crunch time, then I will take a nice doe if I dont see a buck I want.

I wont get out again until October, so it was nice to get out, even if it was just for an evening and morning.

Good luck out there everyone.   :archery:

Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.
