On friday my oldest and myself attended the manditory seminar for the youth hunt in camp ripley.  Afterwards we were able to scout and hang our stands.  We found some good spots and I let my daughter make the choices.  We found some great spots on the oak ridges but the wind was swirling alot and my daughter picked a flat spot very close to a large bedding area.  There wasn't a lot af great sign but the wind dictated HER choice.  We later talked to several of the kids that did hunt the ridges and they all said the same thing,  blowing deer and running deer.  On saturday morning we see 2 does at first light 60 yards away and then a doe 15 min. later came in down wind and picked us off.  15 min later we see a nice buck following the first 2 does.  The buck soon disappeared into the pine thicket never to be seen again.  As we turned around we noticed a doe had appeared from no where and was 20 yards away and getting closer.  I just watch my daughter and took in the best show in the world.  The doe was very relaxed and feeding its way into a shooting lane(15yds).  When the doe had its head down eating acorns she drew the bow back and let the arrow fly.  The doe went 20 yards out into the grassy field and went down.

The doe is in the center of pic.

dead doe is in the red circle

Doing the dirty work. Later she told me this was here favorite part of the hunt, other than pulling the trigger.

One of my favorite pictures.

Very nice, congrats to all involved in the hunt.  I also like the last picture.

Great Story and congrats to your daughter, it's good to hear success stories with kids.

How many years does a kid need to apply for this hunt before they build up enough preference to get drawn?
