I shot a decent 8 pointer on opening weekend at 54 yards. The arrow seemed to be heading the right way and I heard a nice thwack. Was 100% positive that I hit the deer. (Right after the shot another 8 pointer heard the commotion, ran out and stopped 20 yards away from me, I passed on him feeling confident I had hit the first.) I waited quite awhile for the second buck to walk off and then went to look for blood. To my surprise I could not find even a drop and the arrow was nowhere to be found. Confident I hit the deer, I started zigzagging through the woods in the direction I had seen him run. Never found blood but I did stumble across the buck 50 yards from POI. There was one very small pool next to him which seemed to be full of clots. The arrow hit 4" behind the front shoulder and passed through the deer.

My little brother had this happen to him as well a couple of years ago and we found that buck but no blood.

Has anyone else had this happen or know why it would? I was thinking it might be the broadhead but you cant ask for much more than a pass through.

First of all, welcome to the site.  Second, congrats on the buck kill.   You didn't say if the shot was high or low.  If it was a pass through, you should be able to find your arrow.  What kind and size broad head?  Any pictures?

here are one of my two

high lungs or a dull broad head both result in kills with little blood on the ground. if you shot it high in the lungs you should of seen blood on the trees so my guess is dull broad heads

Thanks guys. I was shooting a muzzy 100 grain broadhead. i believe it was 1 1/4". Brand new this year so it shouldnt have been dull. The shot was just high of the heart but did get the lungs. I dont have my camera with the pics with me right now.

I have only shot a bow twice but have been on moose archery hunts in Canada with buddies and this has happened to them on several occasions. They say the arrow makes such a clean cut that the blood simply coagulates quickly around the entry and exit wounds and the blood doesn't get a chance to leave through said wounds. A few of them have even stopped using bows because of solid hits on moose and not even being able to find them afterwards.

I think it can happen for many reasons. My dad shot one with a rifle and it went 70yds no blood not even in his final resting place. Bled inside, he was full of blood. Every deer will be different and one can only know for sure if and when they find it. In your case I think you killed a zombie deer! Ha
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!
