Sounds like rain for some of us this weekend...

So what should we do with our opener if mother nature decides to rain on us ? Any of you guys have any tricks for hunting in the rain ? Any experience or stories that could help some of us who may run into a wet one? I've heard the horror stories and I'm sure there will be some of you that won't go out in the rain. I have this one weekend to bag a deer.......any thoughts/ideas? They are calling for showers and a high of 38 where I'll be. I'm hoping that the temp will drop and snow will fall or no precip at all....

I fine I have better luck in the rain/snow, With that said I hunt close to bedding area and in the woods, then open area. But then my stand are close in in fact two of the have heat with power  I am hoping that it snow more so then rain as this make the deer not so hard to see and you can see there new tracks, So I say let it 

As last year was nice and most on the deer bedded in the swamp next to the corn or what they was feed on, I did not see a deer the first week, I shot my in the pine tree the fist day it  as I walk back throw the pine tree I shot her in here bed,

I use a rain poncho with hood and tough it out.  Hopefully it won't rain hard because that's just plain miserable.  It's been a while since I hunted in the rain but from what I remember, it didn't affect hunting too much.  I have one of those umbrellas made to attach to a tree.  I have never used it.  I may go tomorrow and try it out.  Snow is only good if it is cold enough for it to fall off everyting.  Usually if it's warm, it's worse than rain.  I'ts hard to see through snow and even when it stops snowing, it keeps falling off trees and brush.  At least with rain, when it's over, it's over.

I'll be toughin it out alright, it's my only weekend. I'm with wildlife on the snow though. I love hunting in a fresh snow for tracking and spotting deer. I've had lots of success in that kind of circumstance. I also hunt heavy timber close to bedding areas off of larger fields. There are some small swails/swamps that they bed near and also thick pine stands that are almost impenatrable for the average hunter. Our group will be short one guy this year so there will be a large open area that will not be covered with eyes. I'm just worried that if it rains, the deer will bed and not move around at all. And with one guy less (only 2 of us), it will be hard to push any areas with the deer being able to sneak out fairly easily.

FireRanger, while it's raining, is a good time to still hunt.  The rain muffles any sound and with wet ground, no leaf crunching.  You can really sneak up on them.

Beside that I think the deer move more in bad weather then when in nice weather they seem to move more at night in nice weather.

Here look at it if you had a fur coat and it was nice out you would lay down in the sun and get a tanned. You could here good you could smell good you could see good.

Now if it was bad out you would move around to stay warm You could not smell or see or here  as good. In my book bad weather you can get some nice bucks!! 

  as I am hoping for bad weather The key is hunt in thicker wood close to good bedding area and walk in the pine tree rows use the wind!! Sit long as more hunter will move around to stay warm

I agree with the whole sneakin stuff and have used that to my advantage before. I also think that I would want to move around more aswell if I were a deer. I guess the weather just throws another factor in when it isn't just your typical dry cold fall day for opener.....getting antsy I guess.

i know there was a reason to put roofs on our stands. The three on my land have roof.. one is closed in. Good luck

ill be in a stand that has a roof. lol but for those of you who dont have roofs, just wear rain gear. they will be moving in the rain for 1 main reason THE RUT! im sure it will be kicking in on friday or saturday and if you were a buck with only a few days to breed would you lay in bed or go out and find yourself a date!! stay safe and stay warm

I have no roof on my permanent right now but Friday I'll be mounting my Ameristep ground blind to the top of it and I'll be alright.

 Talk about last min thinking  That one thing all you hunter should count on the weather It not away will be nice out!!!
