This morning my son and I went bow hunting just as it stopped snowing.  He went in a stand and I walked the various woods around him.  If I cut a track it had to have been made within the past minutes.  I had a couple deer in front of me but couldn't get them to head in the right direction.  After a few hours of this I went across a small swamp and followed the woods edge.  I soon jumped a doe and fawn which headed east along the swamp edge.  I went in the woods and circled around to get in front of them.  Not seeing their tracks, I doubled back and soon encountered them going west.  They went back where I jumped them and I saw their tracks (and just to rub it in, their poop) in my tracks.  After a short distance they crossed the swamp into the woods where my son was on stand.  When I saw the direction they took, I circled around in the swamp to head them to my son.  When I got around a point, I saw their tracks going back across the swamp.  They probably ended up right where I first saw them.  It was great fun knowing any track I saw just made.  Also, shows a guy just how hard it is to get them to go where you want them to.
