Hope this doesn't mess with Benny's ATV thread

We have performace sleds already and a couple of ATV's but I have been looking at 4 stroke snowmobilies for about a year now.

I didn't want to buy one of the Yamaha's, as they are more performance than I was looking for, for the purpose I intended to use the sled for.

I had been looking at some used forest service 660 Arctic Cats in the Star and Tribune. The guy had a great price on them at $2999.00 for 2004's.  With me being so far from where the sleds are. I asked the seller to please go look at the miles on the remaining machines. He wasn't much on going to look and just spit out a wide ranging number(3000-4500 miles). I thought to myself, why buy something from someone that can't even take the time to go write down a few numbers.

The old brother-inlaw who owns a Polaris dealer in the cities was a real gentleman to me. I talked with him about these cats and he says, I will sell you a brand new 2003 Polaris 800 4 stroke Frontier Classic with electric start, reverse and the M10 rear skid for $4000.00 + Tax and Lic.(family discount)

This machine will be perfect for towing my portable and gear. It's quiet, gets 25 mpg and has a range of 300 miles on a tank of gas.

This is going to be my go to ice fishing machine from now on.

Fishaholik is picking up a new Arctic Cat ATV this weekend too. We are planning a lake trout trip to Burntside lake with some other fisherman in late Jan.

 Whats your ice fishing sled?

Looking yet, needs to be reasonable. In the meantime I have a sled I can use. The deal was if I fix it up (hasn't been ran in 3 yrs) and pay for the lic I can use it all I want. So fresh gas, new plugs and clean the carb, whala. Still don't need it tho as we have no snow.

Don't sweat it Bufflehead, more the better to look at.

I to have thought about a sled instead of an ATV because it is legal to ride them almost any where.

Where as when I had that new 2002 SP Polaris I could only ride it on the lakes or designated trails that are few to be found at that time.

Now things have changed some what, but I still think the ATV's are going to get killed off slowly by the anti's.

Benny, where the ATV's are going to get killed off from is, the few idiots who choose to continue to do damage to our public and in some cases private property.

Where I live, some locals along with a large group of their frends from the twin cities, choose to have several spring ATV rides(SPRING, WHEN IT'S THE WETTEST TIME OF THE YEAR). You should see the ditches and snowmobile trails(TRAILS THEY ARE NOT ALOUD TO BE ON) after one of these weekends.

Right along a major state Hwy(65), they choose to ride through the deepest cattail filled water and mud they can find. Sometimes for miles, you can see mud filled ruts and channels of muddy water through the mowed down cattails and high grass. NO! they can't ride around the swamp filled ditch..drive right through it up to the gas tank.

They leave this kind of damage in plain view of 1000s of passing non-ATVers to see right from their cars on a state Hwy.

Even seen a piece on the cities news channel and in the Star and Tribune one time with pictures from right here in my town south all the way to Mora, showing the damage done by these nimrods.

This is whats going to kill ATV's

Now back to the subject at hand..ice fishing snowmobilies

I'm up this early, looking at the radar. The boys and I were/are going to jump in the truck and go pick up the new sled in pavement land...but it's looking kind of slippery.

My luck, the only Precip to come along in a month or more and it's on the day I want to get a sled in the cities..dam the bad luck! LOL

I bought a new sled a couple of years ago. I thought with the low snow conditions, prices would never be better to grab another. The wifes sled we bought new 11 years ago and it's still in great shape and runs like new but seeing new sleds going for half their normal cost in this tough for business winter. The time is now. I can wait, soon or later we will get some snow. I buy boats at the end of the boating season also. NEVER buy when conditions are good or during prime time. You will pay top buck

Wish us luck on our trip to the cities, were going to need it I think!!!!

 Yep!

Fishaholik is here for the weekend and he brought his new wheeler. We are going fishing all weekend.

Boy, the roads were REAL! bad around McGregor. Snow packed, ruff and slippery as all get out.

I had the new sled running and road it around the yard..it's a dandy!!!

What you up to for the New Years weekend?

We are hanging around home for the weekend.  Playing it low key this year.  We are taking the kids skating tomorrow.  We have some friends coming over New Years to play games and have a few cocktails.

Good luck fishing!  I wanted to head up to URL this weekend, but it didn't work out.  Maybe next year.
