Second morning out for my Spring 2012 Turkey hunt; Walking in to my stand before 5am and had a group of Toms gobbling a couple hundred yards north of me. Let them shout for 45 minutes to an hour before I pulled out The Heartbreaker box call and threw a few purrs, yelps and clucks at em. Waited 15 minutes and threw a few more calls their way while they were still in the tree and then waited about 5-10 minutes more til I heard them fly down.

As they hit the ground I gave em a couple short excited yelps and they came runnin and gobblin' in full strut. I picked the bigger, dominant strutter of the 3 and within 2 minutes this boy was on the ground. 40 yard shot with the Ole Remington 870. 7 3/4" beard and sharp 1" spurs on this bird.

This was by far the most fun, most exciting hunt I've had yet. I just love the "interactive" side of turkey hunting when the Toms react to your calls and come runnin. This was my 2nd Tom harvested since I started turkey hunting in the fall of 2008. I shot a Tom a little smaller than this one in the Spring of 2009 while hunting with my Dad who shot a nice Jake at the exact same moment that I shot my first Tom.

This bird has already been through the Crock Pot with some Onion soup and ready to add to some Wild Rice Soup for supper next week. Now I can't wait for the fall hunt with my bow.

Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.
