If I am reading the new regs right, anybody bowhunting will need to have on blaze orange. You will be allowed to remove the orange once you are on stand. If that is the case that is a freakin joke.

Yes, you must wear blaze orange to and from your stand when there is an open firearm season in that area. For your own protection from those who do not positively identify the target before shooting.

They need to word the law better. You have always had to wear orange during firearm season.

Thanks for your response. :Hunter:

It is the same with duck hunting and trapping during the november deer season, I remember as a youngster having to wear my deer hunting hat, vest and gloves while checking my traps before school.

I deer hunted so never had to worry about duck hunting.

orange is not required during firearms deer season while hunting migratory birds while on waters or in a stationary shooting location or to trappers on waters.

i think M4E was talking about the small game requirements. it is worded kind of funny but that states only if you are taking small game you must have blaze on unless deer hunting and are stationary. otherwise during any open deer firearms season you must wear blaze orange. i have not seen anywhere where it says you can take it off once on stand.

BLAZE ORANGE REQUIREMENTS
Small Game Seasons: You may not take small game unless a visible portion of at least one article of clothing above the waist is blaze orange, except when hunting wild turkeys, migratory birds, raccoons, predators, when hunting by falconry, trapping, or while hunting deer by archery while stationary.
Deer Season: Also, you may not hunt or trap during any open season where deer may be taken by firearms (including special hunts, early antlerless, youth seasons, and muzzleloader) under applicable laws and ordinances
unless the visible portion of your cap and outer clothing above the waist, excluding sleeves and gloves, is blaze orange. Blaze orange includes a camouflage pattern of at least 50 percent blaze orange within each square foot. This restriction does not apply to migratory waterfowl hunters on waters or in a stationary shooting location or to trappers on waters.

basically a vest and hat of 50% blaze pattern

except when hunting wild turkeys, migratory birds, raccoons, predators, when hunting by falconry, trapping, or while hunting deer by archery while stationary.

EXCEPT is the key word here. If you are involved in the above mentioned activities the exception applies.

Note that if you are still hunting or stalking a deer while bow hunting you still need to wear orange.

I hope this clears this up.

ray, that is true if you are hunting small game but those exceptions are for small game hunting while bowhunting.

if you are bowhunting during any firearms season you must wear required orange at ALL times... the only exceptions for this are migratory waterfowl hunters on waters or in a stationary shooting location or to trappers on waters.

I can see how you could interpert it that way but I wil ask the local warden for sure.
The manual does state on page 2 that  blaze orange is not required for archery deer hunters while stationary.

Just one more side note even if you can take off you orange once in your stand. I wouldn't.... i personally know 2 people that have had slugs hit the same tree they were in. At least in the southwest MN were its all farm land

you really have to watch the grammar in the laws and break them down on page 2 it is still talking about small game hunting. you dont need it if you are small game hunting with a bow while also hunting deer and are stationary.

Lentz, it depends on where you are hunting any time you are hunting in an area where deer can be taken by firearms, this includeds any special seasons and only the area being hunted.
like a youth hunt, special antlerless etc.
