Nice catch :happy1:  We have them in the bay here and guys do catch them from time to time fishing for walleye. One of the pretty, ugly fish to catch..

Raining here not hard but enough showers to get ya wet if stand out in it. Still some ice on local lakes but the wind and rain are doing there thing on it. Might actually take the cover off the Puddle Humper and get it wet later in the week. I got a tank of that cheap gas in the truck I need to use up  ;D

Yet another windy rainy day here, ice is finally all gone from local lakes but to windy to get out and fish on them, not with the whole summer ahead of us, going to pick better days to be on the water then what we are having right now. :coffee:

Well one way to get around the high cost of gas is to not go fishing, with the late ice out and now wind and rain I have X ed out three fishing days and now one Lake Vermilion trip. On the other hand I have just saved myself 500 miles in driving and 30 gallons of gas.  :coffee:

Warmer weather on it's way, of course it is going to rain but that is the price we have to pay. Should be out fishing next week, I might be the last one on the board here to get a line wet :fishing2:

Two weeks after this post and now we are finally going to get a break in the weather. for next week, no rain and temps in the 70's This first month of the fishing season has been a total zip for me. With lousy weather and gas prices so high there was no reason to take the cover off the Puddle Humper just to go out and get wet. From what I hear the water is still cold and not much weed growth so it just might work out after all. Got to say I think this will be my latest start to getting on the water and going fishing.  :doah:

Well it looks like DDS and myself our ready to enter the race. DDS golf is out of the way and I have no excuse to get out on the water, finally.... 4.35 gas was not in the budget along with a new battery and charger for the Puddle Humper.  Gas is down to 3.70 and new battery is installed. I expect I will be posting a fish or two before the end of the week. Will let you know about water temps and how the fish are biting since no one else is using this thread to share any information..  :happy1:

I was on the Lake of no fish last weekend.  Water temps were right at 50 degrees and no new weed growth at that time.  I'm sure that changed this week.  I was in Wisc. this last week.  The weather was starting to heat up so I would expect the crappie  would have been good on the Lake of No  Fish this weekend.

Finally hit the water yesterday, little bass lake that we found last year and this was our first chance to hit it before the weeds ring it in. Water temp was 68 to 72 as there was a wind blowing pretty good, we fished it in the evening and boated 32 bass and one northern. Should have been more but I was fishing some top water and left my glasses in the truck and could not see what was going on with my long range casts  :oops1:  Lilly Pads are up but surprising the pond weed is way behind, Skeeters were brutal.

No lack of water this season, another day of thunderstoms here today and the docks are going to need to get raised here soon. On the other hand it, all the rain has really open up a lot of skinny water that this time of the year you would not be able to get a boat back into. Of course you have to go hand to hand combat with the skeeters when you do.  training-087

Lee, when do you head up this way?

Borgie and I will leave home this Friday and stop for the night at the black bear motel. That would be about just past the half way mark. We will arive in Ely on Saturday and get our supplies. ETA at the cabin about 2:00 pm. I figure on fishing about 12/14 days depending on the weather. Borgie may only fish about 8 days although last year she got her biggest walleye on the first day out. Go figure! Sure hope we have cooler temps than last summer when it was hot with calm winds.

Better bring the cribbage board and Borgie should bring a few extra rolls of nickles for the slots. Monday is the only forecasted dry day this next week. This keeps up you won't have to take the boat off the trailer to fish.

Summer has finally arrived, pond weed that was growing just beneath the water is now on top and I give it a week and it will be a dense mat. Skeeters are thick and the black flags have now joined us out on the water. Fished last night and the water temp is steady at 73 and dragonflies are also coming out. Expect a late mayfly hatch any time now. Of course we have another round of rain coming this weekend.  :Fish:

The weeds up by way might be a little behind but the Lilly Pads have really taken over the back bays. Fished last night and all we kept catching was those 20" northerns. We got 22 of them, managed to knock another 6 or 7 off at the boat and missed a mess more. Bass must be on vacation but the biting flies sure weren't  :doah:

Another Monday night, a different lake but the northerns must have followed me. 19 came over the side of the Puddle Humper and made a mess of my spinnerbait skirts. Switched over to a buzz bait and they were still blowing up on that. Did manage to catch 7 bass but right now there is a Mayfly hatch going on so I am going to blame all the free food for the poor bass fishing. We don't want to talk about the black flies and a new skeeter hatch has followed the rains. These ones are so big they fly with a wingman.. Water is in the mid 70's and pondweed is getting pretty thick up here, may have to start fishing the frogs in the slop!  :fishing2:
