This winter has seen higher then normal temp's.  It looks like that is finally going to change!  Now, we will be able to get out on more lake and do some fishing.  I have a question for all our members.

What is your favorite lake to icefish on, and why?  Please share.

I will start things off.  I love to icefish on Upper Red.  It is my favorite getaway.  The lake has had some up's and down's over the years, but now you can still find some big crappies, get your limit of eyes, catch some perch and tangle with some 40'' gators.  I've been going up to red since I could hold a pole.  It's kind of a tradition in our family.

I love the Big V......imagine looking out your window and watching a moose crossing the narrows 100 yards away...or a wolf running around, or deer feeing on an island....good stuff

???  it would be sylvan lake in sothern cass co. but with the new regulations for this body of water and the limit of panfish, it  has been delt a blow ! with a new limit of 5 crappies and 5 sunfish it does not take long to get a quick lunch or supper !  this lake has been hit hard by development and has lost its clearity due to human waste and chemical run off ! along with the natural flow and transfer of water that flowed from gull lake to sylvan to the crowwing river , the flowage was and is blocked at the south end of steamboat bay on gull and at the dade lake exit to sylvan lake with the condemntion of the local travel bridge seperating dade lake and upper sylvan lakes due to development .:(   :P

My Top Three are

1. Lake of the Woods Northwest Angle - I like it because of the scenery and the remoteness.

2. Upper Red Lake - Its nice that there isn't cabins stacked on each other on shore.  And the fishing is UNREAL.

3. Ottertail lake - The lake has amazing structure, lots of sunken islands, steep break lines.  Great Fishing also.

I like them real small lakes, the ones that no one goes to. The fishing is usually good due to no pressure and I can sit there all night listen to the coyotes howl and catch fish.

I have to agree with Griz. I really enjoy fishing the smaller lakes. I've had my best catches by far on big waters, but thats sure not all that counts.
