The big countdown is upon us.  The MN Walleye Opener is this Saturday, May 11th!  Anglers are excited.  The Rainy River has 40+ miles of great fishing and beautiful scenery.  Walleyes are in the river and being caught by sturgeon anglers daily.  The Lighthouse and Morris Point Gaps, 4 Mile Bay, Bostick Bay and Zippel Bay are open.  The lake area in front of the gaps will have some open water as well.  Game On!

Zippel Bay Resort just had its Pike tournament.  A lot of smaller northerns in the bay.  The thought is the big fish are spawning in the creeks and should be in the bay in a matter of days.   4 Mile Bay and Rainy River backwaters or tributaries are other options.

Sturgeon "Keep One" season continues this week through May 7th. Keep one between 45-50" or over 75". Catch and release season will go until May 15th. Great numbers coming from Wheeler's Point or out by Timber Mill Park in Baudette.

There is still lodging available for the opener.  Check out Hot Deals and our lodging availability request form on our website at www.lakeofthewoodsmn.com.  Like Us on Facebook for daily updates: www.facebook.com/lakeofthewoodsmn.
