Some 2013 Garden pictures

I call it the pumpkin patch but it has Rhubarb, Pumpkins, Gourds, Cucumbers, and Watermelon.
 

Main vegetable garden.  Yes, some weeds are growing with the corn, potatoes, tomatoes, beans, peas, onions, carrots, lettuce and some other stuff.
 

The tomatoes are really looking good.  The cages are about 4 feet high.  I may have to add some additional support around them.


The pergola doesn't take much work as it just covered in vines that mostly take care of themselves.


Some of the apple trees.


The flower gardens take a lot more work than the vegetable gardens.  Grapes not so good this year.


Hard to beat a Minnesota Snowball in the morning sun.


Of course, flowers must welcome you along the drive way.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!! I TAKE OLD BROOM HANDLE  2 x 2'S  and pound them in the tomato racks for added support.

 Some more garden pics.  Corn beans, pickles, tomatoes, peppers, onions, beets, and those are not weeds in the background.  They are looking to be the best potatoes I've ever had.  they are almost waist high.

Looking really nice there general.  I usually stay ahead of the weeds until the middle of July.  By then I'm hoping the garden plants are big enough to beat them out.

General   take a rake to your great growing tops of Potatoes....seriously!  I grew up in the Valley(Red)  a old potato farmer told me if you have too good of above soil growth, wack them up a bit, at least break off the blooms and you will get bigger spuds.  I have followed his instructions and had good results.

Bobby Bass, I always have time for hunting, fishing, and planting stuff.  Of course it helps to be retired.   I got laid off in 2008 and haven't looked back yet.  I don't know how I had time for work.  Today's schedule is pretty light.  Taking my grandson to swimming lessons and hitting a few garage sales.

Nope but the wife does all the canning and pickling.  I did have a potato bug issue but I bought some stuff to spray on them and it took care of it after on application.  I did notice that the bugs where only on the red potato plants and never went on the yukons...........yet

Just got back from the Lake for a few days... pulled into town and pea size hail started!   Was afraid the vegetable garden was wreaked but not much hail at my house.  Too much mud to pick anything other than a handful of Raspberrys looks like a couple gallons tomorrow.


One row of corn pretty flat but bet it straightens up, the early corn is looking good eating in 2 weeks.

Here is the winter squash (butternut, buttercup, and acorn) with the asparagus patch to the left and the fall bearing raspberries on the right.

 Wife is starting the canning of the green beans.  She stills had another 5gal bucket to go and what is ever left in the garden.

that's a nice couple buckets of goodies. my peppers stink. general, those green beans, they sealed? I make green beans but there more pickled and stay in the frig.

Yes they are sealed Dilly Beans and a bit on the spicy side just the way I like them.  They go great in Bloody Mary's too.

 i don't know what she does as that is not my job, but what ever she does they are great.  We also pulled some taters out of the ground last night.  One plant had 8 nice big taters on it.  If the rest of them are like that plant, boy is it going to be a great year for potatoes.  I would predict  a 55 gallon barrel full or more.

No they do not need to be kept in the fridge.  In regards to the tater bugs, a couple times I hit them with some stuff and they were gone.

Some hot weather has helped the garden, here is the first muskmelon I picked tonight,

The winter squash are doing great, my favorite side dish with game! is butternut or buttercup fried squash!!

My fall bearing raspberries need their first picking tomorrow night!  Should be a gallon or two...

  I like it!!!!! I prefer to use the ole noggin.....not my back. that's already wore out from all those years of skilled hard labor.
