Lake Owasso WINTER KILL

Anyone see the story on the news last night?!

Huge muskies, huge walleyes 30" were all found dead under the 3-5inces of ice on Lake Owasso over the Holiday.  Its a horrible story, Owasso was one of the best fisheries in the cities over the last many years.  Great populations of game fish, nice walleyes, etc.
The DNR is unsure of the cause as of now, lack of oxygen, but I really think its due to the summer weed kill that many residents will do around their beaches.  A travesty though - there are still some sluggish fish swimming in the shallows, but it doesn't look good for that fish population.

wow what terrible deal, that's really sad, I doubt its lack of oxygen this early with newly formed ice, unless like ya said the property owners killing off all the oxygen giving plant life on the beaches an the chemical their using depletes the oxygen. sad deal anyway ya cook it.

That is a strange 'diagnosis' of the problem..... It seems highly unlikely, but I guess the DNR has the evidence.  They forget to mention the cause of the 'increase in oxygenation'.
.... I doubt we will find a way to prevent this, but with thousands of dead fish, its hard to think its a 'fluke' of TOO MUCH OXYGEN, but I don't think we will see many answers.

I am glad to see that the fishery will recover, but usually its the 'young' fish you see dying, not the mature ones.

There might be more questions (atleast I have them).
