Downward part of the cycle or maybe a change in the habitat.

Suppose to be the bottom of ten year cycle here and now this summer we will get to enjoy the tent caterpillar invasion. Going to clear out the popple leaves in most of the areas I bird hunt.

when one species thrives another one dies.. just the way it goes.   we had tons of grouse around our place this year. to be honest more then in the past.. but we switched the shooting range to using vegetables.. I had a garden with tons of pumpkins and gourds.. we shot the heck out of those all fall every weekend. I think that brought em into our area.. so in a way I guess I was baiting grouse.. we didn't hunt grouse at all this year, so no need to call the dnr. also we had a bunch of woodcock.. must have had 4-5 of em on the road one day when we were leaving. haven't seen em before. don't know where they've been hiding. would like to get me a few for a mount would be fun. now I just need a 410 so I don't blow them to bits.
