Griz: Where did you ever see this photo before? (and no it hasnt been doctored on) its legit, but alas a few years ago. 1990 vintage. Thats me with one that weighs just a couple ounces short of 29 lbs. My personal best, although I did manage a few more before this that were over 20. After this one I havent speared but a few times. But someday soon I'm gonna start up again. As far as the location, thats for you to guess. Theres still plenty of big ones there and if I go back I don't like it too crowded. lol.

The photo I think I remember having seen Had a sign on the left hand side of it very similar to this one. It had a northern that looked bout like this one but a much older man holding the fish. That's why I said it looked dr. on, just because of age of fisherman. I could have seen the photo anywhere but thought I seen it in a newsletter from spearing association. Heck maybe it was ur photo and over time since seeing it my memory recalled it wrong? ???  Maybe it was a photo that just looked similar, I don't know.

Heck it's one heck of a fish and since ya know where it was taken, maybe ya could PM me the name of the lake. ;D

Griz: You could be right. Thats a sign at a bait shop where I had the fish officially weighed. However you didnt see this particular picture because its a polaroid and I have the only copy. The owner of the shop snapped it for me. I could do you better than pm you with the name of the lake. I'll take you there someday next winter. I'm just too busy to get away this winter though. (When I go, its for 2-3 days)

i've got a few places in my head, however i'm not very familar with that area of SD. I live in Sioux Falls now though i do all of my spearing back in Minnesota. Nailed a smaller guy yesterday to be exact.

jjaws:
You really should get familiar with 'that area.' Its the best spearing by a long shot for big pike that I ever tried.
Its certainly big waters with 'iffy ice conditions' and the pike arent everywhere. But within a few trips I'd bet you'd have it figured out.
I speared and angled there in excess of 400 days from the middle '70's till '91. I also speared as much or more on MN waters during the same time. Only a couple lakes in MN here even came close to giving a guy a similar chance for a trophy.
So give it a shot, and good luck to you!  ;D
