Here is a pic of a before and after of one of my plots. We killed this on June 6th and took the after picture June 23rd. Don't waste your money on round-up. Get the generic label and just make sure it contains 41% Glyphosate. As you can see it gets the job done!

looks good. we sprayed our beans about 2 weeks ago and its looking good except the deer are overbrowsing. its 2 acres and its almost leveled. so we over seeded with a brassica mix. the pic is from when we tilled it up

Over browsing is not a bad problem to have.  Is it early to plant brassicas?

I just planted mine...

We have 61 days until opener. I look at it that way. Rain is a factor when it comes to germination. They say germination is 6-10 days with good water. Does mother nature ever deliver water when u need it??  ;)

So lets say you get lucky and they germinate in 10 days. You still have to consider that it takes 75+ days to maturity and that is with good soil, water, and fertilizer.

Now here I'm focusing on turnips. If you look at rape you are looking at roughly same germination period and 40-45+ days to mature.

In my experience both of these brassicas are browsed the heaviest when they are growing and doesn't mater when mature. If you want turnips for late season then yes get them in the ground, maturity will matter more.

Another thing to consider is that not all your seed will germinate so you will have time to check the plot in 20 days and re-seed areas that need it.

Thanks for the explanation.  Good plan.  I will have to get started soon if I can ever take a break from fishing. :laughroll:

nest weekend will be 10 days from seeding.. had a good rain 2 days after seeding. hoping to go up and check it out next weekend.

ran into a neighbor who was logging off his land that borders ours across the road about 20 acres in total. the rest is already pasture, hoping this will push whatever deer hold up in his woods into our land for day time hideouts. his south pasture a year back had 10 deer in it opening day right around sunset. I think they were pretending to be cows... they all lived to see another day.

on a plus side the crap road in front of our place is getting fixed by the logging company so they can get their logging trucks back there, they neighbor already told them he wants the road in the same or better shape when they leave because of our place. nice guy. hope they live up to their word.
