IS CLOSED NORTH OF OUTING ABOUT 4 MILES. replacing some bridge or culvert. heard a rumor it might be open by the weekend. know anything about it
? looking at a map theres a cty rd 48 that heads west, do you know if that's before or after the roads closed? then there's a 55 going north and a 7 back east that appears to come out near the south end of big rice lake?

is that cty rd 58 that heads east out of outing really as curvey as the map indicates?

any suggestions?

48 that goes west must be Washburn rd. Ne. That is all high ground so it will be before the closure. That hooks up with 55 north to 7 then you can get back on 6 by taking a right on 7.    Washburn road is paved for the most part.  The pavement ends then you will have around 5-6 miles on dirt which will bring you to 55.  Go North on 55.  That's dirt until you hit 7.    You don't want to go 58.  It's all dirt and as bad as it looks on the map if not worse.  It has many sharp curvers and at least one  90 degree curve.   Depending on where you are going 169 into hill city or 65 into Jacobson then going east or west on 200  might be a better bet.  I would be suprised if 6 is completely shut down for too long.  They usually get it to one lane pretty quick.

thanks. I looked at 511.org. it looks as though 6 is closed already in Crosby. ??? thinking of taking 371 to 84 then past federal dam that way.

I checked it out too.  Closed in Crosby to thru traffic.  You can get to Outing and the washburn rd no problem. 6 is completely closed just south of the turn to 7.   If I was trying to get to Federal dam or even Longville I would take the washburn rd -55-7 route.  Unless I was pulling a boat.

I forgot to warn my parents about the closure.  They left this morning.  when they call I will get the lowdown on the detour.

would there be a reason not to take 371? I would be coming up hwy 10 anyway.

I drove to Outing last night.  They start the closure in Deerwood and they start  a detour there.  I didn't see what it was.  The real closure is 4 miles north of Outing.  Take 371 if you can.  For me to go North at all from here I would take the Washburn rd- 55-7 route.  It would add about 30min on to the trip.  Like I said before Washburn rd is paved most of the way.  The rest of the way is dirt and can be a little slower going until you hit 7.

well got thru. sunday nite. detour was done. lloks like the actually replaced 2 culverts right in the area of the DNR hatchery.

it was that dand detour by the cabin that bit. I have 2 baits on the other side of the closed bridge. 52 mile round trip to check 2 baits. :bonk: :bonk: should be done by the long weekend.

I came back Sunday am because of the rain and the lousy fishing.  It's hard to believe summer is over already.  Lot's of folks start closing up the cabins around Labor day.   I was lucky this time with the detour.  Just North of me.   I had one just north of Crosby several years back that was a pain in the  :moon:  all summer.  You probably remember that one too.  I found an alternate from the locals that saved a lot of time on the east side of 6.

It keeps getting better.  I just got the word that the road closed sign for highway 6 starting in Deerwood is because 6 is closed right out of Deerwood.   The last holiday weekend of the summer was chosen to replace a couple of coverts just outside of town.  I'm sure it makes sense to someone.  Maybe a way to work for triple time ?   Maybe a way to burn up some state or Obama  dollars?  Who knows.  Long story short, there is no way to take 6 from Deerwood to Crosby so beware.   :doah:

Here is the detour.  They technically have the closure listed as 210.  You just have to go around the south side of Serpent lake to get back to 6.  this detour goes through the 29th.
