DNR NEWS - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                        Oct. 31, 2014

Warm, windy conditions greet hunters during second Camp Ripley hunt

 :archery:  :coffee: more......
Archers took a two-day total of 70 deer during the second bow hunt at Camp Ripley Military Reservation near Little Falls on Oct. 25-26, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said.

For both hunts, a total of 145 deer were taken, and 3,805 permits were issued with 2,966 hunters participating. Hunter success was five percent, down two percentage points from last year for both hunts combined.

"Warm, windy conditions greeted archers at this year's final large archery hunt at Camp Ripley," said Beau Liddell, Little Falls area wildlife supervisor for the DNR. "We appreciate hunters applying for these hunts and making them an annual tradition."

The largest buck taken on the second hunt weighed nearly 200 pounds and was taken by Curtis Betzler of Clearwater. Of adult does registered, the largest weighed in at 124 pounds, taken by Nicholas Scheffer of Stacy.

The DNR coordinates the annual archery hunts at Camp Ripley with the Department of Military Affairs, which manages the 53,000-acre military reservation.
