Thats a pretty dangerous first ice area!! Moving water and lots a springs.Unless youve been there before early ice stay in others tracks.Long lake would be my first choice till the ice thickens anyway.
Where are you planning on trying? Been there much?

couple years ago I speared browns. from what I gathered they fished the cats on the opposite end from the access on the lake south of the resort. there is apparently a deep hole towards the south end of the lake where a creek goes out. I seen where someone had thrown a bunch of small cats on the ice.

on long theres a bar out south east of the landing of a point that's out there. my guess would be there may be people out there fishing it. it ranges about 22 to 26 ft of water where I have fished them. also caught crappies there too!

I fished Browns yesterday.  Open water in the middle still.

browns south of Richmond???? drove by there this afternoon and didn't see open water?? there wasn't much traffic out in the middle. a few spearhouses and a clam or 2 but it was early.

there were 6-7 people out by the meth hole. they parked just south of the 22 bridge and walked out. only seen 1 wheeler on the ice. there where a few out in the bay where you get on horseshoe and a small house by dog island. cant believe there weren't any spear houses just south of were you get on. usually early like this there are 4-5 spear houses there. nothing but some tracks on cedar island side.
long lake had some spear houses out and a couple guys out where they fish cats.
