So im heading up to Devils lake for the New year next weekend.  This will be my first time fishing devils.  Does anyone fish devils on here?  If so do you have any pointers.

Thanks,
Stnmtz

Just this.........

Dec 25th Devils Lake

Most anglers continue to report spotty perch fishing, although a few of the guides on the lake have reported finding pockets of fish. Walleye fishing has been pretty good, with fish as shallow as 6 feet but best action in that 8- to 12-foot range. According to the latest report from Bry's Guide Service, pike seem to be all over, many numerous fish in the 3- to 5-pound range. Smelt or herring fished below tip-ups or jigging with rattle spoons has produced the best results.

Bring some tip-ups. You can have 4 lines in the water per person in NoDak. Water is not real clear. I usually fished stuff that glows and rattles. Hope you do well. Wish I could get back up there this winter.

Are you going to hire a guide ?
I don't usually fish Devils lake much but last year the hot perch bite was in Pelican.( of course didn't hear about it till it was over the bite was mid march)  Irvine is also usually a hot spot for Northerns sometime walleye, and if you get perch Jumbos.  Its a lot like Leech lake (about 5 different lakes)  As Wyofish said bring some tipups rigged for pike.  Buy a dozen or two of BIG suckers in Mn  and freeze them individually in baggies to use on tip ups for BIG Northerns.  Legal if dead to bring into ND( I think)  Livies are not.  Hook two live big fatheads on the tail treble hooks sticking out to give the rig some movement..I use northland pike quick strike rigs with the perch colored blades.
If fish are on the bite chubby darters are great baits, Northland rattle jigs always good.   Check out Jason Mitchell's shows they are his web page or Facebook... lots of the shows are filmed there.
Download Navionics app on your smart phone... better map than lake master etc... its shows the old road beds... under $15.   Walleye fishing fish off the edges of the old road beds.  Perch in Jan are usually found deep, mud bottoms, gotta keep moving till you find em.

Good Luck!  Even if the weather sucks it will be better than where u where last year..... :happy1:  Thanks again for your service and glad you are back out fishing.  If I hear of any specific bite Ill let you know...

Oh I forgot my two favorites both in Perch... Rapala jigging shad rap and Nils Master baby jigging shad if you can find em..with a big fathead's head on it.

Well we didn't find the perch but we did find a few walleyes and had a blast tip-up fishing gators.  Spent most of the day running from tipup to tip up.
