Spay/Neuter Timeframe

What age is most appropriate for the "big cut". I have heard wait until 12-14 months if possible due to growth issues, hypothyroidism, hip dysplasia, bone density.  What has everyone else done or heard?

If you have no intentions of breeding the sooner the better. 6 months is the ideal time. When my girls are done breeding here in my kennel I spay them. I lost a 13yr old female chessie to Uterine cancer never will I go through that again. Also as a rule it usually calms them down. I have really not ever seen a reason why you shouldn't spay or neuter. I know I sure don't miss the girls coming into heat when hunting season arrives!

I had my dog done @ 7 mo. He did fine. My vet told me no earlier than 6 mo no latter than 1 year. Hope that helps!

guythathunts your right no earlier than 6months unless there is some other medical reason they need to do it but you can have a dog spay or neutered at any age after that. Some of my females I have had spayed are 8yrs old and  males at 9-10yrs old.

I had my golden retriever done at 6 months and  he is still full of energy lol
