With the sturgeon season this spring so far being catch and release only, the "keep one" season opened this weekend and did not let down anglers. Consistent fishing as anglers caught many "dinosaurs" anchoring up in the mid channel or over deep holes using a 2oz no roll sinker with an 18" lead and a 4/0 or 5/0 circle hook with a gob of minnows. Timbermill park in Baudette towards the Lighthouse Gap at the mouth of the river producing best results.

Pike season is open all year. Pike are coming off of the spawn and are hungry.  Many methods producing this of year. Hard and fast trolling or casting spoons or shallow diving crankbaits proving successful. Others are using a northern harness tipped with smelt, dead cisco, or herring with a bobber. Very shallow bottom fishing from 1-8 feet.  Good fishing continues for sturgeon and pike as anglers await the walleye opener on May 9th.  More info at www.LakeoftheWoodsMN.com.
