Deer are generally docile creatures, but despite their best intentions, they still manage to cause tens of thousands of car accidents each year. They leave death, destruction and a whole bunch of car insurance claims in their wake.

According to a fall 2014 report by State Farm insurance, the likelihood of colliding with a deer in the U.S is about 1 in 169, but the likelihood varies across the nation. So where are you the most likely to collide with a furry friend frozen in your headlights?

Following are the 20 states where you’re the most likely to hit a deer, as well as information on how car insurance rates are affected by an accident. This, too, varies across the country.

Note: State Farm calculated the crash likelihood ratios using the number of collisions with deer by state and the amount of licensed drivers in each state. The state expensiveness rankings included on each slide were developed using nationwide car insurance rate data collected by Credio. The “most popular” companies represent the top three companies by 2013 market share in each state, as provided by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

About 10 yrs ago I decided to fly solo on a trip to da BWCA. Since my car had many many miles on it I asked Borgie about using her new Grand Marques.  reluctantly agreed. So, I'm heading north on 53 in Wis and just as the daybreak started peaking out. I was in the left lane goin bout 70. I noticed a doe and two fawns standing in my lane ahead. I swung into da right lane and they weren’t spooking off da road. I was afraid they would jump into my lane so I hit da horn. BIG MISTAKE! The doe jumped right in front of my wife's car. At that point it was like all happening in sloooow motion. Hit the front of the car, over da hood, smashed the passenger side windshield, over the roof and bounced on the nose of da boat as I looked in the rearview mirror.

The wind shield was all shattered on the passenger side but, yet stuck together. Hey, I'll get it fixed when I get home next week. I spent the week fishing and never used the car all week. When it was time to pack I noticed the windshield had developed a big sag.   Well of course you big dummy after sitting in the hot sun all week what did you expect. The drivers side of the windshield was still ok. "Let me think I say's" I've got 575 miles to drive home. What would Sanford and Son do in a situation like this?

I got some cardboard and duck taped it over the soft half of the windshield to protect it from the high speeds & pressure from the wind. Well, It looks like crap but it should work. I started out slowly and increased my speed cautiously. "How cool is this" it's working! I soon found out that if I went over 50 mph the silver finish on the duck tape was coming off and I was seeing threads. After pulling over twice and re-tapeing it this was not going to work. 

I pulled into an auto store and got some aluminum tape and that got me home at high speeds. The wind couldn't get under the thin tape. Borgie was all embarrassed when I pulled up in front of the house.

I hit a 8 pointer and never seen it as i was looking at the much larger 10 pointer in the ditch.

My wife hit a large buck that totaled her new car. It was in a new development and she walked up to the closest house to use their phone. She told them that she had hit a deer and the kids started to cry because she had killed BUCKY
