Every year we shut down for 2 weeks during the holiday break.  Normally, this is when I spend a few nights on Red Lake in my wheelhouse but with the ice being only so thick I've decided to stay home and do some more adventurous ice fishing on some smaller lakes way back in the buckboard hills West of Itasca with the portable.

Had to walk about a half mile from the truck just to get to the water, then another 300 yards out pulling my flip over loaded down with gear but it was worth it.

Thanks Boar!  I'm definitely going to make my way back there again.  The perch weren't huge (10-12") but they're some of the cleanest I've seen anywhere.  Out of the 18 I kept I only found 4 grubs total in the meat and they were all in the same fish.  Curiously, that fish was the only male in the bunch.  The crappies were nice sized though.  The one on the top of the photo was just a hair shy of 14 and the one on the bottom was 13.
