SD pheasant hunt

I went out this past weekend to use up the second part of my license.  We had a fantastic hunt limiting out both days.  A couple rules for hunting 1.  Is there food right next door.  2. Where are the cattails?  If you found a combination of the 2 you had plenty to shoot at.  I shot one not pictured that had a 26 1/4 inch tail feather that will be going on the wall.  I also saw lots of people out fishing and only one other hunter.  Best part about late season pheasant hunting is no competition as only die hard pheasant hunters are still out. 

On a side note a local breeder is using my Male Shorthair.  This is honestly the best shorthair I've ever had.  I guess he has a bunch of great lines (I don't really care about that kind of stuff).  At 10years old he still pounds through the cattails, never gets tired (or doesn't show it), retrieves everything on land and water, listens, unbelievable drive, never one medical problem (knocking on wood).  My dad has one of his daughters and she is really good.  I am going to be keeping one to let the old man teach him how its done.  I don't think I'm going to let him have another litter so if anyone is looking I would highly recommend one of these pups.  I'm told all the pups will be solid liver as that it what both parents are colored.  His female has a title if that is important to you.  I looked up what it would take to title mine and he could easily be a Senior Hunter and the only part of a master hunter he wouldn't pass is the part of waiting to go get the bird until I shot it (which I would never want my dog to do anyway).  I just really don't have the time for these things.

Looks like you had a good hunt,always liked late season roosters out there,sleep in until 9am,pheasants@10am(legal shooting time) limit out by noon,then walleyes late afternoon,great fun!

took a little trip to Sioux falls and back yesterday..............actually seen about 4 pheasants, in Minnesota, on my road trip. that's more then I seen the last 3 years combined!!!
