A man died Sunday afternoon of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning in a fish house on Walker Bay of Leech Lake.

According to Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch, a call was received at 4:37 p.m. of a medical emergency at the fish house. EMS personnel and deputies arrived and found four adult males experiencing symptoms of what was believed to be carbon monoxide poisoning, in a camper trailer that had been converted to a fish house.

One man was found deceased and another adult male was brought to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids and subsequently transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Two others were treated at the scene and released. Identification of the deceased man is pending notification of family members. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The initial investigation indicated that propane devices being used to heat the structure were not ventilated :bonk: and led to unsafe levels of carbon monoxide inside the structure.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Walker Police Department, Walker Area Joint Fire Department and North Ambulance.

My little heater puts off bad fumes.  Its a Mr Heater (the circular looking one that is silver and hooks up to a large propane tank)  seems like I have to open up much in my little Eskimo pop up that it almost defeats the purpose.  Are there any out there that burn cleaner?

I prefer the buddy style, little or big buddy heaters, you can use 1lbers or buy the hose and hook up to 20 lb tanks. they are considerd infrared heaters, still use oxygen of course but safer and cleaner, and they have a co saftey switch, I dont bet my life on a switch but always have some ventilation.
