A couple members of our deer hunting crew purchased 40 acres of hunting land in northern MN earlier this year. The majority of the mature trees were logged off about 15 years ago. There is a lot of aspen/poplar trees on the property. We plan to clear off a section this spring to make a food plot. What suggestions do you have for what to plant? The 40 acres is surrounded by a lot of pines on state forest land. There is a meadow that on wet years can be a little swampy on the state land to our southwest. We have never planted food plots and would like advice from others with experience.

Start before the snow is gone.  Plan your trails to and from the plot with the wind in mind. Plant the trails with clover.

Did you read the posts titled "Help planning a "woods" food plot!" A lot of great ideas were shared there.
