Fishing regulations vary among Native American bands

Q: I am a member of Fond du Lac Band and I have a few kids. Are there any restrictions on ice fishing? Do I need a license? And do my kids?

A: There are different regulations for members of our Native American communities, and those regulations differ by each band’s Conservation Code, and most of them differ in many ways from Minnesota or Wisconsin fishing and hunting regulations. If you are a member of Fond du Lac, Mille Lacs, Red Cliff, Grand Portage, Bois Forte, Bad River or any of the other bands in our area of Minnesota and Wisconsin, please contact your organization’s Natural Resources division for your current regulations.
