Conditions might warrant early ice-shelter removal

Because of rapidly deteriorating ice conditions, Minnesota anglers may need to remove their ice-fishing shelters early and not wait for the deadline. Ice anglers in Northeastern Minnesota are reminded by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources that ice shelter removal date on lakes located north of Highways 200 and U.S. Highway 2 is 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 21.
For Minnesota–Canada border waters, the deadline for removal is March 31. Anglers are advised to remove shelters earlier if ice conditions warrant.
 
“Ice conditions are changing rapidly during this spring thaw, and anglers should not wait until the removal deadline if conditions warrant early removal. Ice shelters and their contents left on a lake too long can become irretrievable and can end up as unwanted trash in our lakes,” said Capt. Tom Provost, DNR Enforcement Division.

No need to remove them here in Big Lake, the lake is ice free today.  Bring on the boats
