The main lake is continues to open up and the Rainy River is cutting away at the ice just past light house gap. The river is cleaning up as well.  We continued to see success with the walleye bite heading into the weekend despite a cold snap.  More eater fish combined with some big females.  UV colored jigs with shiners and rainbow chubs the go to .  Some anglers using jig and plastics.  Water temperature dipped a bit but we heard reports that the snow didn't muddy up the water.  River accesses are accessible by all boats.  Walleyes open to April 14th.

Sturgeon fishing remained steady throughout the week.  Decent numbers of large fish being caught in 4 Mile Bay and up river.  Use a 3-5 ounce no roll sinker and a sturgeon rig loaded with crawlers.  Please take good care of these prehistoric fish.  Updated river info, sturgeon fishing info and boat access map at http://lakeofthewoodsmn.com/rainy-river-fishing/  Sturgeon catch and release open through April 23.  Keep season April 24 - May 7.  C/R again May 8 - 15.

Up at the NW angle, resorts and guides are gearing up for open water season. LOW lodging, river, walleye and sturgeon guides and more at www.LakeoftheWoodsMN.com.
