I know it's a tad early, but it's about time to start thinking about it.  So, what's your plans for the MN fishing opener.

What body of water are you going to attack on opener

Is your boat ready?
Did you put new line on your reels yet?
Are you going with family, friends, or flying solo?
Did you purchase any new gear for this year?
What species are you going to target on opener?
Did you sign up for the MNO 2016 fishing challenge?
Is your boat registration sticker up to date?
Fishing license up to date?

So what's your story? Let's hear about it.

I don't go out on opening weekend as a rule. Weather is too unpredictable, too many boats on the lake. and the water is usually too cold. I tend to fish mid week to avoid the crowds.

I'll be on the best opening day lake in Minnesota, Beautiful Lake Vermilion.
I know that there are a few spots that get pretty crowded however there are plenty more where you won't see another boat and the Walleye fishing is always good.  ;)

Hey Ace,
What's the scoop on the trout lake portage. Never been there but some had told me good things. That was years ago though.

Rule of thumb for opener I stick around home. Haven't done anything to prepare for it yet either.

There is pretty good Walleye fishing near the portage until early June. It's not a secret by any means.  ;)

Itasca State Park.  Parking lot is crowded but the lake isn't.  Just need to be there early to beat the crowds and nab a parking spot which isn't too hard for me since I'm only 10 minutes away.  Always do well there for 'eyes on opener.

Is your boat ready?                                    Haven't seen it since last fall.
Did you put new line on your reels yet?        If I knew where to find the rods and reels
Are you going with family, friends, or flying solo?  Family, if they will have me
Did you purchase any new gear for this year?      Dumb question, yes
What species are you going to target on opener?   Northern and crappie
Did you sign up for the MNO 2016 fishing challenge?  Dumb question, yes
Is your boat registration sticker up to date?               I will have to look when I find my boat
Fishing license up to date?                                      Roger that.
